Christina Parie Tones Down Her Rock Chick Antics on X Factor

Mel B hasn’t had the best luck on The X Factor so far, with two of her Under 25s girls, Tyla Bertolli and Jacqui Newland, being eliminated in the first three weeks of the live shows. But the former Spice Girl is confident that her remaining contestant, 15-year-old Christina Parie, has what it takes to go all the way. It was the ’90s-themed live show last night, with hits like Tina Arena’s “Chains” (sung by Audio Vixen) and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (a Declan Sykes performance) belted out on the X Factor stage. Christina brought the show to a close with “Zombie” by The Cranberries, where she pushed aside the jumpy rock chick antics and delivered a powerful, piano-playing performance that demonstrated just how good her vocals are. The judges and audience gave her a standing ovation, with Guy Sebastian calling it “one of my favourite moments from the entire series.” Not bad for someone who probably doesn’t remember the ’90s!
