The sequel to predecessors The White Queen and The White Princess, The Spanish Princess depicts Catherine of Aragon in her tumultuous bid to forge an alliance between England and Spain.
Essentially, Catherine of Aragon becomes the Princess of Wales after marrying Prince Arthur, however, when he dies suddenly and her newfound title appears to be in jeopardy, she seeks to woo Prince Arthur's younger brother, Henry VIII, in order to maintain her place on the English throne. Despite opposition from those within the royal family who'd gladly see the end of her, she is destined to preserve her place in the kingdom.
The 8-part series has everything we need to create the perfect period drama — an opulent aesthetic, a female-led narrative and an empowering undertone. I'm not one to give away spoilers because this suspense deserves to be preserved, but I will say the twists in The Spanish Princess are ever-present and — at many points throughout the series — quite jaw-dropping.
On top of this, each weekly episode drops the same day as the US, so we'll be kept right up to date.
