Last night on The X Factor, the final episode of boot camp, Guy Sebastian, mentor for the under-25 boys, made the tough decision of letting Iraq war survivor Emmanuel Kelly go. Emmanuel, who captured hearts during his audition with a rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” struggled during boot camp and forgot the lyrics for one of his performances. While he hasn’t made it through to the next stage of the competition, he has scored millions of fans, Australian and international. The most notable? Yoko Ono. She posted a video of his “Imagine” performance on her website with the message:
Thank you, Emmanuel. You sang beautifully!
Thank you. John would have been proud of you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Fans reacted strongly to Emmanuel’s elimination, particularly as on the same night Ronan Keating, mentor for the groups, decided to put through twin sister act Upfront, who have so far gained more attention for their antics than their talent.
