Damson Idris Joins Brad Pitt in Apple’s Upcoming Formula 1 Racing Film
After conquering the small screen with roles in “Snowfall” and “Swarm,” Damson Idris is racing onto the big screen alongside Brad Pitt in Apple’s untitled Formula 1 racing film. On April 7, Deadline reported Idris landed the coveted role after multiple auditions and driving tests. The movie will be helmed by “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski, who favors naturalistic effects, hence the need for a star who is good behind the wheel.
The movie doesn’t have a title yet, but there are plenty of reasons fans should be excited about the project. In addition to Idris’s casting, the film also serves as a reunion for the creative team behind the 2022 blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick.” Not only is Kosinski directing, but Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the film, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Ehren Kruger, one of the writers behind the “Top Gun” sequel, is penning the script.
Given what a massive hit “Top Gun: Maverick” was, expectations for the F1 film are already high. While it’s still early days, a few details about the Pitt-Idris movie have already emerged. Read on for everything you need to know about Apple’s upcoming F1 movie.
Who’s Starring in Apple’s F1 Movie?
Pitt was the first actor signed for the film. He’s joined by Idris, whose work as the lead actor on FX’s “Snowfall” has earned him critical acclaim and two NAACP Image Award nominations. Idris has also appeared in episodes of “Swarm” and “Black Mirror.” No other stars have been announced at this stage, but given Kosinski’s desire to employ actors who are proficient behind the wheel, racing fans can count on the director rounding out the cast with those who aren’t afraid to make the driving scenes look every bit as authentic as the flying scenes in the “Top Gun” sequel.
Are There Any Real F1 Drivers Involved in the Movie?
Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 champ, is producing the film under his Dawn Apollo banner.
Apple’s Untitled Formula 1 Movie’s Plot
Pitt is set to star as a retired race-car driver who wants one more shot at winning it all. He sees his chance in the young driver played by Idris, whom Pitt’s character comes out of retirement to mentor. Pitt’s character will also assume the role of Idris’s character’s partner in a bid to become a Formula 1 champion.
Is Apple’s Formula 1 Movie Headed For Apple TV+?
Per THR, Apple plans to give the movie a theatrical release, but it will land on the streamer at some point as well.
