Your Comprehensive Guide to the 2023 Season of Australian Idol

Channel 7

After a 14-year hiatus, Australian Idol will be returning to the small screen in 2023. The show that introduced us to singers such as Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy is on the hunt for its next star, and we’re desperate to know exactly who that will be.

Millennials are already rejoicing at the news as they get a chance to relive their childhood. Most of us were in primary school when the first season of Australian Idol premiered back in 2003, which saw Guy Sebastian and Shannon Noll go head-to-head at the Sydney Opera House in what was truly a grand final.

So, to get us into the Idol spirit, we thought it was time to discuss everything we know so far about the upcoming season.

Who Will Make Up the Judging Panel?

Back in the day, Mark Holden, Marcia Hines and Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson made up the judging panel, but despite being the OG trio, they won’t be returning in the upcoming season.

Taking their place will be four local and global superstars, with Channel 7 announcing Kyle Sandilands, Amy Shark, Harry Connick Jr and Meghan Trainor as the new judges of the competition.

“I’m excited about the auditions. It’s going to be pretty special to find that diamond in the rough and then see how they progress through the show. Idol has changed the lives of so many artists in the past, so I’m excited to be part of that,” said Amy Shark.

Who Will Host Idol?

It’s not only the judges who have been replaced. The earlier seasons of Australian Idol were hosted by Osher Gunsberg, who at the time went by ‘Andrew G’.

Next year, however, the reality TV franchise will be hosted by former Idol contestant Ricki-Lee Coulter and TV host, Scott Tweedie.
