It’s Top 8 time on “Australian Idol”. Each and every performance, the remaining singers are putting everything on the line. However, there’s one contestant that’s currently shining in this crowd. The “Australian Idol” contestant Drea Onamade might have what it takes to win this 2024 competition.

Since her audition, Drea has been blowing the judges away. Her smooth and upbeat version of Estelle’s “American Boy” particularly impressed Amy Shark and Marcia Hines.

“You can sing, you’ve got style,” Amy said. “I can feel this aura. You are going to be really hard to beat.”

“I like you because you bring joy,” Marcia said, “and that’s what music gives people.”

Since then, Drea has been swinging from success to success. We all loved her boisterous version of Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like.” Likewise, her cover of Guy Sebastian’s “Battle Scars” brought down the house.

But who is the artist behind this music? What inspires them to sing? Here’s the backstory of the “Australian Idol” icon Drea.

Meet Drea Onamade: The “Australian Idol” Frontrunner

Long before becoming an “Australian Idol” sensation, Drea Onamade discovered the joys of singing. This Perth girl has always loved how songs can transform one’s spirit.

“I get my love of music from my family,” Drea said. “I am Nigerian Jamaican, having that culture behind me is absolutely incredible.”

According to Drea, she’s ready to use “Australian Idol” to launch her music career. Even if she doesn’t win, she will always be first and foremost a singer.

“I’m excited to see where this journey takes my career,” Drea said. “I’ve been doing this for quite a while as a hobby and now as my main form of income. To get to this stage will hopefully open so many doors and lead me to different places. It’s been a hard slog, but it’s been so worth it.”
