They’ve done it, Dylan Wright has won the 2024 finale of “Australian Idol”. In a competition against the country singer Denvah Baker-Moller and the magnificent voice of Amy Reeves, Dylan proved themself to be worthy of the mountain the votes they received. Dylan is now on the road to fame, winning $100,000 in prize money and a recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Australia.

“Thank you,” Dylan said, “I’m about to cry, thanks.”

However, Dylan’s climb to the top wasn’t easy. The 2024 season of “Australian Idol” was filled to the brim with some excellent performances. Who could forget Isaac McCallum’s raw rendition of the Lewis Capaldi ballad “Bruises”? Or when Ivana Ilic brought the house down with her cover of Ella Eyre’s “Came Here for Love”?

Speaking before the finale, the judge Amy Shark said that this competition was truly anybody’s game. She believed that this was one of the most competitive seasons of “Australian Idol” in recent history.

“I can see so many of these contestants on the radio,” Shark said. “All the artists feel very fresh. It’s really exciting. I do not know how we are going to get one Australian Idol out of this group, there is so much talent.”

Additionally, the 2024 “Australian Idol” finale was a very tight race. Reeves’ cover of “Bang Bang” made the audience jump with excitement, and Denvah Baker-Moller’s cover of “Landslide” should be beloved for years to come. It’s very easy to imagine a timeline where one of these competitors had won.

But what was it about Dylan that made them a step above the rest? Here’s how the finale went down.

What Happened in the “Australian Idol” 2024 Finale?

The “Australian Idol” finale began on a wholesome note, with all the contestants from 2024 singing a rendition of “I’ve Got the Music in Me”. Everyone was so excited, they all admitted that they didn’t know who would win this competition.

This was followed by Denvah Baker-Moller singing an intimate version of “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. Up next was Amy Reeves with a piping hot cover of Ariana Grande’s “Bang Bang”. Last but not least, Dylan Wright belted a rocking rendition of “Hold Me Closer” by Britney Spears and Elton John.

After these three songs were sung, Denvah was eliminated from this competition. However, Denvah was a great sport about her loss.

“I’m nothing but happy,” Denvah said, “These are my beautiful, beautiful humans.”

This gracious exit had the perfect follow-up act. On the “Australian Idol” finale, Delta Goodrem was the special performer, and she killed it. By the end of her performance, the whole crowd was on its feet.

Up next was another performance by Amy. In a full-circle moment, she performed her audition song, Aretha Franklin’s “A Natural Woman”. By singing this song again, Amy demonstrated how much she’s improved.

Like Amy, Dylan also performed his audition song again. His acoustic cover of “Better Be Home Soon” by Crowded House was loved by the audience and all judges alike.

After Dylan finished singing this song, he was declared to be the winner of 2024’s “Australian Idol” finale. Congratulations Dylan, you’ve earned it!
