Australian talent shows are known to have a sweet line up of celebrity judges. We’ve seen Iggy Azalea on “The X-Factor” to Jessie J and Ricky Martin on “The Voice Australia” and this season’s “Australian Idol” panel is no different. Making her debut on the Idol judges’ desk is body-positivity queen, Meghan Trainor.

She is also joined by Harry Connick Jr and Aussie household names, Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands.

Trainor is a seasoned reality talent show judge, having previously served as mentor & critic on “The Four” and “The Voice UK”. She is well-known for her gentle and kind personality, even in the most critical of times. Despite the pressure of being a critic, Trainor often offers a level of empathy to contestants, regardless of their respective circumstances.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Grammy award-winning artist’s music, she is the master of creating absolute bops about loving yourself and your body. In a pre-show interview, she said she wanted to compose songs that she needed to hear but wasn’t yet hearing on mainstream radio. Since releasing her hit, “All About That Bass” in 2014, Trainor has continued to empower her fanbase with catchy hooks and iconic music videos.

Her 2022 smash hit “Made You Look” skyrocketed her TikTok presence with over 4 million posts under the sound. Her videos on the platform have her fans both new and old invested in the star’s personal life and most especially with her son, Riley (who’s already made cameos on Idol at two-years-old).

When it comes to identifying talent, Trainor’s judgment is likely unmatched. She took home a Grammy for Best New Artist, released eight platinum singles alongside two platinum albums and sold out three world tours. She promises to give Idol contestants “constructive feedback smothered in kindness”. Her advice to artists of any level is to focus on what sets them apart rather than following the crowd.

Meghan Trainor fans can tune into “Australian Idol” on Channel 7 and 7plus.
