At Channel 10's Upfronts in October, we learned that The Bachelor would, of course, be coming back in 2020. Now we know the official premiere date — August 12.
The nation loves to see a handsome man find love! Especially when the success rate is so high: we've seen Tim and Anna, Sam and Snez, Matty J and Laura, all get together through the process. And Sam and Snez and Matty J and Laura have even had our first Bachie babies! Sometimes, in a world of dating apps and ghosting, it feels like dating on The Bachelor might just be the ticket to a long-lasting relationship.
Here's everything we know about the 2020 season:
When will The Bachelor 2020 air?
The Bachelor is back on Wednesday Aug 12 at 7:30 p.m! Judging from past seasons, we would've expected to see The Bachelor air on Network Ten from late July on Wednesdays and Thursdays. But due to COVID-19, production was halted in late March. "Although we have been employing extra precautions on set for some time, it is no longer practical to continue with production," Network Ten wrote in a statement. "Our decision to halt production was made after considering all available options. We will resume production when it is safe to do so." The Australian reported in July that show will return in August, after Bachelor in Paradise finishes screening.
Who is the 2020 Bachelor?
The 2020 Bachelor is Locky Gilbert! He's a Survivor fave, featuring in season two and in Survivor All Stars this year. The 30-year-old adventure tour guide from Perth was revealed as the new Bachelor on Mar. 4. Here's what he said about the new role: "I really want to find love. I'm pretty content with my life at the moment. I go on these crazy adventures, but I'd love someone to share the memories with. I've got best friends, but I want to find that one best friend that I can spend the rest of my life with. This is an amazing opportunity to hopefully find someone special at the end."
He's described his dream date to 10 daily, and it has nothing to do with restaurants or expensive things. "Maybe go on a hike or a walk down along the beach, set up a really nice picnic, watch the sun go down, and maybe there's an outdoor movie screen where we just sit and cuddle while watching a movie." He's also told NW that his dates are going to be "pretty hectic": "I want to be sky and scuba diving, and I want a woman who's willing to give anything a go with me."

Who hosts The Bachelor?
Osher Günsberg, Australia's Cupid, returns to host The Bachelor in 2020. He's hosted every season and every iteration of the Australian Bachie franchise so far, starting in 2013. That's seven seasons of The Bachelor, five seasons of The Bachelorette and two seasons of Paradise up until March 2020.
The former Australian Idol, now Masked Singer host — who happens to be a Survivor stan — shared the news about the new Bachelor with the note: "I've never got to make eight seasons of anything. What a way to break a record!"
When and where is The Bachelor filmed?
Every year The Bachelor is shot in Sydney. The location of the mansion has changed three times over seven seasons. Usually, two seasons of the show are filmed at each location, which means that season eight is likely to be shot at Oxford Falls on the Northern Beaches. Before filming was shut down, it was expected to run from March until May.
Socially distanced filming reportedly recommenced in June. Health measures were also introduced, including twice-daily temperature testing, daily QR code sign-in and -out, and restricted access areas, according to The Australian. Both cast and crew were in isolation ahead of filming resuming and tested for COVID-19 twice. In between March and June, contestants took part in virtual dates.
Channel Ten's Head of Entertainment Stephen Tate said they were "three quarters" of the way through shooting before lockdown. "Basically all the cast returned home," he said. "So we would find ways for the show to continue in the same way that dating continues in the wider world . . . We call it love in lockdown. They continued to virtually date, both as single dates and as group dates."
