You Can Stay Overnight in Buffalo Bill's House From The Silence of the Lambs, If You Dare
Would you dare spend the night at Buffalo Bill’s house? Even if you instantly replied “Hell no!” to that question, you now have the option to do so, because the fictional serial killer’s residence is available to rent. Located in Perryopolis, PA, the exact same three-story, four-bedroom abode where Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb lives in The Silence of the Lambs was put on the market last year and quickly snatched up by horror-movie enthusiast and prop stylist Chris Rowan. Although much of the original design remains, including the same door where FBI agent Clarice Starling and Buffalo Bill come face to face for the first time, Chris spruced things up inside with some rather chilling props that aren’t for the faint of heart.
As soon as you walk into the main foyer, you’re greeted by a life-size Hannibal Lecter figure clothed in an orange jumpsuit and face mask. If that isn’t enough to make you turn right around and drive away, you’ll also notice there are plenty of nods to Buffalo Bill’s death’s-head hawkmoth obsession decorating the walls, in addition to pillows and even a shower curtain with the killer’s face on them.
The real kicker, though, is the basement, which Chris transformed into “Buffalo Bill’s Workshop of Horrors.” Down there, you’ll find an old-fashioned sewing machine and collection of mannequins that reference Buffalo Bill’s gruesome hobby of choice, and “Goodbye Horses,” the song playing during his memorable dance scenes, autoplays as you descend to the lower level. Chris also plans to re-create the doomed well in the basement, so there’s that to look forward to!
Brave thriller-movie aficionados who wish to stay overnight in Buffalo Bill’s lair can book online for groups of up to eight people, with rates starting at $595 per night. Chris told POPSUGAR that he’s had a “mix of guests” since opening on Labor Day weekend, including couples, horror fans, families with children, and even a group of women embarking on a “girl getaway weekend.” Take a virtual tour of Buffalo Bill’s house ahead, and be sure to pack the fava beans and a nice Chianti if you choose to book a stay.
