Chris Evans's Mom Is the Real Superhero For Changing His Mind About Captain America

In an alternate timeline likely envisioned by a supervillain like Thanos, Chris Evans would not be Captain America. In an interview for the latest issue of Esquire, the actor disclosed he initially turned down the iconic Marvel role, which he was offered without even auditioning! Thankfully, we have Lisa Capuano Evans to thank for things turning out differently.

Evans’s mother told the magazine, “His biggest fear was losing his anonymity.” She added, “He said, ‘I have a career now where I can do work I really like. I can walk my dog. Nobody bothers me. Nobody wants to talk to me. I can go wherever I want. And the idea of losing that is terrifying to me.'”

Admittedly, when Captain America: The First Avenger was released in 2011, it drastically changed the course of Evans’s career and life in the public eye, but the pros ultimately outweighed the cons. His mother told him at the time, “Look, you want to do acting work for the rest of your life? If you do this part, you will have the opportunity. You’ll never have to worry about paying the rent. If you take the part, you just have to decide, It’s not going to affect my life negatively – it will enable it.” Sounds like a real-life superhero to us.
