Almost a Year After Breaking Up, Cody Simpson Talks About His Split With Miley Cyrus
Badass style icon Miley Cyrus has a penchant for dating hunky Australian men — and honestly, who can blame her? After her separation and eventual divorce from Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth, she dated singer Cody Simpson for almost a year.
The two ended up calling it quits in August 2020, and Cyrus took to Instagram Live to address the news. The Wrecking Ball singer said that at the time “two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be.”
Elaborating, the Hannah Montana actress said, “Like everybody else at this age, we’re just deciding who we wanna be with our lives, what we wanna do with our lives. We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re gonna continue to be friends.”
Cody Simpson, so far, has kept pretty quiet about the relationship and about the break-up — until now. But no worries are necessary as he was exceedingly polite about his ex and the time they spent together, when interviewed by 60 Minutes.
Explaining how the talented musical couple got together in the first place, Simpson said “I’d known her for a long time at that point. Not like a mentor, but always a hyper creative person.”
Talking over their history together, Simpson said they “went from being good friends, to just having a lot of the same friends, to being together for a while.” When discussing how and why the relationship ended, he had nothing but good things to say. “Everything ended fairly amicably, and it was just one of those phases, I guess. You go through and you learn a lot from it.”
Since his relationship with Cyrus, he has now moved on and is dating model Marloes Stevens. Oh, and he’s gotten back into competitive swimming, hoping to qualify for either the Tokyo Olympics this year, or the Paris Olympics in 2024.
