Season 3 of “Euphoria” Hasn’t Started Filming Yet, But Sydney Sweeney Says “It’s Coming”

Euphoria” season two came to an end in February 2022, and the long wait for season three has been torture. Unfortunately, it seems like fans are going to have to continue to be patient. On the red carpet for the Met Gala on May 1, star Sydney Sweeney said during Vogue’s livestream that “We haven’t started [filming] yet,” but assured, “It’s coming.”

The popular HBO teen drama was renewed for season three on Feb. 4, 2022, following a record-breaking season that raked in a massive viewership of 2.4 million with its premiere (a milestone premiere for HBO Max).

The season’s finale leaves fans with so many questions about what the future holds for our favorite East Highland teens: Will Rue stay sober past her junior year of high school? Are she and Jules really over? Is the Maddy-Nate-Cassie love triangle really done? Is Fez going to jail after the police raid on his house? Will he ever get to be with Lexi, or will the emotional fallout from his little brother, Ashtray’s, death consume Fez’s storyline next season? And then there’s that whole missing-suitcase-full-drugs loose end that never got tied up. Let’s just say season three is bound to be a wild ride.

In the months since the season two finale, stars from the show have opened up about what they hope to see happen to their characters moving forward into season three and onward, from Zendaya to Chloe Cherry and Maude Apatow. Read on to learn everything we know about “Euphoria” season three so far, including its expected premiere date, plot details, and more.

What Will "Euphoria" Season 3 Be About?

While most plot details about “Euphoria” season three are still under wraps, the actors who portray these complex characters have given insight into where they want their onscreen personas to go next.

In an Aug. 13, 2022, interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya revealed she’s most excited to explore the characters’ lives outside of high school. “I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look,” she said. It’ll definitely be interesting to see Rue’s sobriety journey (and how Jules may or may not fit into it after what went down in season two). Zendaya continued, “But also with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be. What was special about this season was that we got to dive into [the other characters] in a much deeper sense. I think we can do that again with the third season. There’s so much talent, you want to make sure everybody has the chance to have that.”

Apatow, who plays Lexi on the series, opened up to Entertainment Weekly in February 2022 about her hopes for the slow-burn romance brewing between Fez, played by Angus Cloud, and Lexi (aka Fexi). When asked about what season three holds for Fexi, she said she’d love to explore more of her relationship with Fez – if he’s still a part of season three, that is. “I love working with Angus. I think Angus is such a great actor, and we just have so much fun working together,” she said. “So, for selfish reasons, I hope we get to do more scenes together because it’s fun.”

Similarly, Cherry, who plays Faye, hopes to return in season three and expressed a desire for her character to grow closer to Rue in future seasons. “I think Faye has a story of addiction to tell as Rue does; even though it’s different,” Cherry told Variety. “I think that they could learn something from each other. I also think Rue is a non-judgmental character, and I think that is all Faye needs. I think if they got closer, they would get along because they have these shared experiences, and they are both chill girls in spite of it.” Seeing how fun their scenes together in the season two premiere are, we’d love to see Rue and Faye bonding in season three.

As for Nate, Maddy, and Cassie, it’s safe to assume they’ll continue to deal with the fallout of their love triangle (if you can even call it that), while Fez will have to work through the legal aftermath of the shoot-out at his house, as well as the emotional trauma of losing his little brother, Ash.

Which Cast Members Are Returning For "Euphoria" Season 3?

It goes without saying that Zendaya (Rue) will be back for “Euphoria” season three. Beyond that, Sweeney, Dominic Fike (Elliot), and Eric Dane (Cal) have both confirmed they’ll be returning for the new season.

Barring any surprises, the rest of the main cast members of the series will probably return for season three, which include Hunter Schafer (Jules), Nika King (Leslie), Alexa Demie (Maddy), Apatow (Lexi), Jacob Elordi (Nate), Storm Reid (Gia), Colman Domingo (Ali), and Austin Abrams (Ethan).

Javon Walton probably won’t return following Ashtray’s apparent death amid the shoot-out (barring any surprise twist that sees his life saved, of course).

And sadly, Barbie Ferreira (Kat) has confirmed she won’t appear in season three.

When Will "Euphoria" Season 3 Come Out?

Fans might have to wait quite a while to devour “Euphoria” season three, as Zendaya‘s schedule is jam-packed.

The former Disney Channel star has her hands full as she just shot the highly anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune,” as well as has the recently announced romantic drama “Challengers” on her slate.

It’s unclear whether we’ll be treated to special episodes in the interim as we did with the two-and-a-half-year hiatus between seasons one and two, but chances are season three of Euphoria won’t hit HBO until 2024.
