The One Friend Who Didn’t Make the Reunion Cut

The official Friends reunion is slated for a May 27 (PST) release and if you thought we couldn’t be any more excited, you’d be wrong.

According to a press release from HBO Max (as well as being confirmed by the entire cast on their social media channels), Friends: The Reunion will debut with the entire cast “returning  to the iconic comedy’s original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros Studio lot in Burbank for a real-life unscripted celebration of the beloved show.” Well, not the entire cast.

Alongside the core six —Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer — fans will be treated to special guest stars including Reese Witherspoon, who played Rachel’s sister Jill Green and Tom Selleck, who played Monica’s much older boyfriend, Richard Burke. Elliott Gould, who played the Geller’s father, Jack, will also be returning with his TV wife, Christina Pickles, who played Judy. However, fans of the hit show have noticed one spectacularly large omission from the line-up — Paul Rudd.

Rudd was a beloved addition to the hit series, joining during its ninth season where he played Mike Hannigan, a love interest for Phoebe Buffay. In fact, Rudd was not only a guest star, but he became such a popular fan-favourite and staple, that the fictitious pair got married in the final series — with Rudd even participating in the final scene!

We’re going to assume the Friends powers that be reached out to our beloved ageless Rudd, but come on, man! What the hell??

Of course, the people of Twitter were not happy.

Other notable missing cast members missing from the line-up include Jane Sibbett who played Carol, Ross’s ex-wife, Jessica Hecht, who played Susan Bunch, Carol’s wife and Dylan and Cole Sprouse who played Ross’s son Ben. What a missed opportunity!

While these actors will be missed, other celebrities appearing alongside our friends (although we’re not sure how they’ll fit in yet) include David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon, Maggie Wheeler and Malala Yousafzai.

There’s still no word on how to watch the reunion in Australia, but as soon as we know, we will update you!
