People Cheered Last Night When Glenn Stood Up For Alisha Against Keira on Bachie in Paradise
Glenn Smith and Alisha Aitken-Radburn hit it off on Bachelor in Paradise from the moment she arrived, with the two sharing a steamy massage date. But it was Glenn's behaviour last night which really seemed to cement their relationship status.
The arrival of Keira Maguire to Fiji made Alisha nervous — she claimed that Keira had said some unkind things about her on Instagram during last year's season, while Keira attested, "I don't even know anyone here."
There are receipts for Keira effectively accusing Alisha and Jules of copying her and Jarrod's storyline and calling the couple "desperate". The topic of Keira and Alisha's awkward past did come up early in the bula banquet, when Keira was asked if she had returned to the show for love or to "f*ck sh*t up".
As Brittney Weldon and Jamie Doran hashed out their "just friends" relationship, Alisha got teary, because the situation was all too familiar to her — she was led along by Jules Bourne last year. Despite the other contestants suggesting now might not be the best time, Keira at that moment wanted to know what Alisha had told the others about her.
"You were called out by Nathan [Favro], and you were called out by Todd King, about [your Instagram Stories] being cruel and nasty," Alisha said.
"Babe, I'm so sorry that I've upset you," Keira replied, before defending herself, saying that she was "harassed" by Todd, Nathan and others. "You've never met me before though," Keira tried to shut down the conversation.
She added: "When I'm getting told that someone's talking 'badly' about me, when they're people that I don't know, I've experienced that a lot in my life and I don't appreciate it."
Alisha accused Keira of a lack of empathy when Alisha messaged her about how she had been hurt by the commentary, with Keira replying only that she'd keep making the Stories "for her fans".
Glenn has already impressed this season with the gentle and thoughtful way he's ended his Paradise flirtations with Mary Viturino and Helena Sauzier. But this moment really confirmed he is a kind and caring gentleman.
He stepped into the Keira and Alisha confrontation, as Alisha became increasingly uncomfortable. "So it's OK for you to speak badly about Alisha?," he began, before pointing out that Alisha had repeatedly suggested that they talk about this privately. He and Keira interrupted each other repeatedly, before Glenn referred back to the earlier conversation: "You're not here to f*ck sh*t up, 'ey? Well, Keira, you're here for love, 'ey . . ."
Alisha thanked him afterwards, saying she "appreciated" the gesture, before telling the camera: "I don't think I've ever had a partner stand up for me the way that Glenn stood up for me tonight, and it makes me think this could be the start of something special."
We love a man who backs his partner — not one who talks over or for her, but who when she's overwhelmed, stands up for her against bullying behaviour.
Keira explained her relationship with Alisha to TV Week today: "Oh my God, I can't stand this chick!
"I don't even know why she's there! A couple of weeks after I made the comment, she messages me to say that she's really upset, that she liked me and that I was the reason she went on The Bachelor.
"I was like, 'What do you want me to say? I'm sorry you feel that way, but I'm actually at a wedding and I don't want to talk about this. Anyway, good luck!' Then I blocked her on Instagram because she was really annoying. But I did it in a nice way!
"So when I came into Paradise, she was already bitching about me, twisting and turning the story, and making it out like I was this villain. She made it much more confusing and hectic than it needed to be."
Alisha told New Idea that while she and Keira moved past their argument, they're not friends now. Alisha reckons that's down to her friendship with her ex, Jarrod Woodgate.
"The only time I've seen Keira since Paradise was when we bumped into each other at the Portsea Polo. But I got a pretty fast impression that she wasn't happy with me.
"I can't hold that against her. If someone was besties with my ex, I wouldn't be the biggest fan either."
