Harry Styles is addressing some intercontinental fan drama accidentally caused by his song “As It Was.” The hit track, which was the first single from his third album, “Harry’s House,” features the lyric “leave America.” As many fans documented on TikTok, when Styles played the European leg of his tour earlier this summer, concertgoers would scream that line particularly loudly, seemingly expressing their disapproval that the English singer has spent so much time across the pond. As Rolling Stone describes it, “It became so loud that Styles stopped singing it himself and let the stadiums take care of it for him.”

Styles told Rolling Stone of the viral moment, “They’re definitely reaching some decibels.” He added, “It seems to be getting louder and louder right as I’m about to head back to tour America. So I’m intrigued as to what exactly will be shouted at that section when I’m in America.”

Since Styles spoke to Rolling Stone, the American leg of the tour has started, beginning with the singer playing 15 nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden. In TikTok videos from the first show, on Aug. 20, the crowd went completely silent during the line, and Styles doubled over in laughter.

Styles’s Love on Tour will continue in New York City through Sept. 21, though he’ll probably duck out on an off day to attend the premiere of “Don’t Worry Darling” at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 5. Then he’ll play five dates in Austin, TX; five nights in Chicago; and 15 nights at the Forum in Los Angeles before moving on to more dates in Canada, Mexico, and Latin America. In 2023, he’ll tour in Australia. Plus, there’s the release of his other big film, “My Policeman,” in October. That movie will premiere at TIFF in September.
