Colleen Hoover Fans Had Doubts About It Ends With Us —The Trailer Just Proved Them Wrong
The eagerly awaited trailer for Blake Lively‘s new movie, It Ends With Us, is finally here! This film is the first adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling book.
The story follows florist Lily Bloom (played by Lively), who, after a rough childhood, ends up in an abusive relationship with Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni, who also directs). Things get complicated as her first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), comes back into her life. The movie also stars Jenny Slate and Hasan Minhaj.
Even before the cast was announced, the adaptation was stirring up controversy. Critics argued that Hoover’s novel romanticises domestic violence. The choice of Blake Lively as Lily — a character who is 23 in the book but has been aged up for the movie — also didn’t sit well with many fans.
Addressing the age discrepancy, Hoover explained that she chose to age up the characters for the sake of realism.
“Back when I wrote It Ends With Us, the new adult [genre] was very popular,” she said in an interview with Today. “You were writing college-age characters. That’s what I was contracted to do.”
Despite all the speculation and backlash, filming wrapped up and the first trailer dropped. And you know what they say — never judge a book by its cover. We’re hooked. Below, find out everything to know about Colleen Hover’s It Ends With Us movie.

What Is It Ends With Us About?
Hoover’s 2016 novel, which is loosely based on her own mother, follows a girl named Lily (Lively) who meets a charming neurosurgeon named Ryle (Baldoni) after finishing college and moving to Boston. Despite his no-dating rule, Ryle makes an exception for Lily, and the two quickly develop a romance. However, not long after, Lily’s first love, Atlas (Sklenar), reenters her life, and her relationship with Ryle is put to the test.
Baldoni previously celebrated the news on Instagram. Alongside a video of Hoover’s cast announcement, the “Jane the Virgin” actor wrote, “Here we go!!!!” Lively also seemed to respond to the news, posting a sultry photo on her Instagram Stories debuting her darker hair colour.
