Model Jesinta Franklin has confirmed that she's expecting her second child with AFL player Lance "Buddy" Franklin.
Speaking to Vida Glow's Anna Lahey in an Instagram Live overnight, Jesinta revealed the couple were "nearly halfway through" the pregnancy. "It was a very big surprise for us," she said. "Tullulah will be getting a sibling at the end of March next year."
She added that she had found out she was expecting just a week after Buddy went into the AFL's COVID-19 quarantine "hub" in Queensland. "[It] was a lot to deal with at once."
Jesinta has previously spoken to The Daily Telegraph about the couple's fertility issues, saying they had tried "for years and years" to start a family.
To Anna on Instagram on Thursday, Jesinta continued: "It was very hard to conceive Tullulah, so for this to be such an unplanned surprise is a blessing. I had that moment that I really had wished for the first time, where you pee on a stick and it's such a surprise and it's very exciting. I got that moment that I feel I missed out on because of all the challenges."
It's important to be upfront about having difficulty conceiving, Jesinta said, because it's so rarely spoken about and may provide some comfort to other women also struggling. "I knew so many other women had gone through it as well, and there was just not enough dialogue out there about it. I think the only time we really speak about fertility, as women, is when it comes to having a baby. We really should be talking about it long before then."
Earlier this month, The Daily Telegraph reported that the couple were expecting their second child. "It's exciting news but early days," a friend told the paper. "Buddy and Jesinta are very happy."
Baby Franklin is an older sibling to Tullulah, who was born in February this year. Jesinta and Buddy married in the Blue Mountains in November 2016.
Congratulations Jesinta and Buddy!
