Jimin Reveals What It’s Like Recording an Album Solo For the First Time: “I Feel a Lot of Pressure”

ARMYs have been begging BTS’s vocal line to release solo albums for what feels like forever, and their dreams are finally coming true. On June 14, 2022, BTS announced they were taking a temporary hiatus from making music as a group to focus on their solo music, promising each member will release a solo project.

First came J-Hope’s solo album, “Jack in the Box,” which dropped on July 15, 2022. His large-scale album promotions wrapped up with a history-making solo performance at Lollapalooza on July 29, 2022. Next came RM, who released his solo album, “Indigo,” on Dec. 2, 2022, which boasted big-name features like Anderson .Paak and Erykah Badu. Basically, Big Hit is not playing around when it comes to the group’s solo work. Case in point: Jimin is linking up with some of the biggest producers in the game for his first solo outing.

Jimin has kept much of his solo plans close to the chest, apart from letting fans know he’s “working” on it on multiple occasions and dropping “Vibe,” a collaboration with Big Bang’s Taeyang. Jimin gave insight into what it’s been like recording an album on his own for the first time in a January 2022 interview with W Korea. “So many things are different,” he said. “Since I am working alone, it makes me think a lot, which makes outcomes slower. When I work with the members, we talk about lots of things and clear them quickly. I think the problem is doing it for the first time. Since I am working on an album like this for the first time, ‘Can it be released like this?’ I am having lots of thoughts like that, which makes me modify more and do it over.”

If you’ve been paying attention to Jimin’s Instagram, he’s been giving fans some insight into what he’s been up to. Still, very few official details are known about Jimin’s solo release (which has long been referred to as “PJM1,” aka “Park Jimin 1,” by fans), though Hybe CEO Park Ji-won gave insight into when it will be released in a Nov. 3, 2022, earnings conference call. Beyond that, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know Jimin’s been working on his album while in LA.

Here’s everything to know about Jimin’s upcoming solo album so far – including its rumored release timeline.

Jimin's Solo Album Release Date

Big Hit hasn’t officially announced a release date for Jimin’s album, as the artist is still knee-deep in the process of producing it. However, on Nov. 3, 2022, Hybe CEO Park Ji-won revealed during the label’s third-quarter earnings conference call that Jimin will release his album in 2023 (as will his bandmates Suga, Jungkook, and V), according to Hankook Ilbo.

On Jan. 16, 2023, Korean publication Sports DongA (via Soompi) reported that Jimin will release his solo debut in February. In response to the report, a Big Hit rep said, “The [release] schedule will be revealed once it is finalized,” a familiar non-denial ARMYs believe is as good as confirmation Jimin’s album will indeed drop next month.

Jimin's Solo Album Collaborations

While BTS can stand on their own, fans love some good ol’ collaboration speculation, and there’s plenty of it when it comes to “PJM1.”

Will a Jimin and Khalid Song Be on “PJM1”?

On July 16, 2022, Khalid posted a video revealing a snippet of a new song he was working on and captioned the Instagram, “It’s been a minute since I’ve posted a snippet! Just made this one last night 🌙 who should collab with on this one? Let me know in the comments!” ARMYs immediately flooded the comments section with Jimin’s name, considering Khalid is a big fan of his song “Serendipity” and has teased a BTS collab in the past that never came to fruition. Additionally, fans speculated the moon emoji could represent Jimin because he has a moon tattoo on the back of his neck.

Will a Jimin and Drake Song Be on “PJM1”?

Jimin famously set the record for the most-streamed song on SoundCloud in the first 24 hours with his 2018 solo song “Promise,” beating out megastar Drake and his single “Duppy Freestyle.” Ever since, fans have been begging for the two stars to collab. Fans have noticed many of TBHits’s posts on Instagram have featured Champagne glasses ever since he revealed he’s working with Jimin. Considering Drake goes by @champagnepapi on Instagram and Hill has worked with Drake in the past, many fans believe they’ve connected the dots on a Jimin and Drake collaboration.
