The new season of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! has kicked off and after much anticipation, the celebrities who will reside in the jungle have been revealed. From Poh Ling Yeow to Beau Ryan, there’s a number of familiar faces this year but there is one “international celebrity” that has left viewers a little confused.
Leading up to the premiere, Channel 10 dropped a few hints as to who will be competing on this year’s season, with one of the clues being “an international reality star”. With Big Brother VIP having Caitlyn Jenner on the show, many thought the California native will also be taking a crack at I’m A Celeb but it seems like that wasn’t the case.
The star in question is actually Joey Essex, which is fine if people actually knew who he was. Taking to Twitter, fans of the show questioned who Joey was and if he was an international celebrity, why they hadn’t heard of him until yesterday (Jan 3).
So Who Is Joey Essex?
Essex made his TV debut on the UK reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex, otherwise known as TOWIE back in 2011. The show, which is now up to its 29th season, follows the lives and relationships of young people living in Essex. Joey on the other hand only appeared in the series up until 2013, but since leaving the show has remained in the public eye.
According to his IMDb page, he has 72 TV credits, all appearing as himself. He’s starred in 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, The Big Fat Quiz of Everything and, yes, the UK version of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.
And turns out, he is a pretty big deal. Boasting 3.1 million followers on Twitter and 1.8 million on Instagram, Joey is certainly not a nobody.
