You Can’t Make This Stuff Up — Samantha from MAFS Is Allegedly Related to Serial Killer Ivan Milat
Just when you thought Married At First Sight couldn’t get any crazier, notorious Australian serial killer Ivan Milat has somehow been causing a bit of a stir on the reality show.
Yes, you read that right. We’ve had the glass-smashing incident, Olivia circulating a nude photo of Domenica, a cheating scandal and now, Milat himself has risen from the dead to stir the pot on Married At First Sight.
Turns out, participant Samantha Moitzi is allegedly the granddaughter of the backpack killer’s younger sister, Shirley Soire. Not to mention, Shirley allegedly helped Milat “get rid of” a gun prior to his arrest and continued to support him during his imprisonment. It’s reported that she would take her grandchildren to visit him in Long Bay Gaol. Yikes.
Sam’s husband on the show, Al, allegedly discovered the family connection after he suggested the two watch Wolf Creek together — a film loosely based on the Milat murders. That’s when Sam revealed her family’s dark secret to Al, but the conversation was never shown on the show.
“It’s all true. Ivan is her great-uncle,” an insider told the Daily Mail. “Al knew about it during filming but he didn’t wanna blow it up because Sam didn’t want it to come out or for anyone to find out about it.”
“So Al respected that and never told anyone, not even the boys, about it. Sam didn’t speak of it again after she told Al and he didn’t want it to blow up for her either,” they added.
Milat is one of Australia’s most well-known serial killers after he brutally murdered seven backpackers in the Belanglo State Forest between 1989 and 1992. It’s suspected that he killed more, but that’s a secret he took to his grave when he died in 2019.
His known victims were British travellers Caroline large and Joanne Walters; German backpackers Simone Schmidl, Gabor Neugebauer and Anja Habschied; and 19-year-old James Gibson and Deborah Everist.
Married At First Sight airs at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
