Matty Healy’s Dating History Includes Some Very Famous Exes

Matty Healy is certainly not one to shy away from the limelight. The lead singer of The 1975 often hits headlines for his eccentric on-stage persona and his outlandish interviews, but it’s his love life that has put him in the global spotlight of late. The singer is rumoured to be dating none other than Taylor Swift, just weeks after the “Anti-Hero” singer split from Joe Alwyn after six years together.

Long-time fans of the respective rock and pop stars will be well aware that the pair have been friends for years, but the internet has gone wild yet again under the premise that they’ve taken things to the next level. Whilst it’s not yet been confirmed if the two are more than friends, Swift has already met Healy’s famous parents, “Loose Women”‘s Denise Welch and “Benidorm” actor Tim Healy.

The 1975 frontman is known for his divisive on-stage antics, whether it be eating raw meat, drinking red wine straight from the bottle, or ranting in autotune, but he has also tapped into deeper parts of his personal life in the band’s songs and in interviews. He’s been publicly open about his addiction to drugs, and is in recovery after spending seven weeks in rehab. He’s even sung about his past relationships, of which there have been a fair few famous faces on his exes list. Keep reading to find out more about Healy’s relationship history and those he’s been linked to.

Halsey (2015)

Healy was first linked to singer Halsey in 2015 after they were seen at one of The 1975’s gigs. Speaking about how the pair first became acquainted, the “You Should Be Sad” singer said in a 2014 interview with All Things Go: “When I first started writing I was a huge fan of this band called The 1975. I went to see them in concert, bought tickets, met Matty, and in a weird way he’s been influential to me just because of his lack of care.”

The pair didn’t officially confirm a relationship, but speculation was mounting that they were together. It was reported that Halsey’s “Room 93” EP was titled after a hotel room they once shared. “If you think he’s the first red-wine-drinking, pretty-boy rocker in skinny jeans I’ve been associated with, you’re out of your f*cking mind,” they told Billboard. Fans also speculated that one of the singer’s biggest hits, “Colors” – which hails from their 2015 album “Badlands” – is also about The 1975 frontman.

Whilst the star never revealed who the song was referring to, she did explain on SiriusXM’s show “HitBound” in 2016 that the song is about “being in a relationship with someone and watching the vibrancy slowly start to leak out of them…Whether they’re falling victim to drugs or falling victim to work or any sort of negative behaviour that’s kind of taking them away from the bright and lively person that they used to be.”

Healy appeared to reference the impact his drug addiction had on his relationship in his 2016 track, “Paris”. He sings: “I said ‘I’m done, babe. I’m out of the scene’/But I was picking up on Bethnal Green/She said I’ve been romanticising heroin.” He previously explained to Rock Ur Life that the song is about how he’d “love to go back to that place where we were” in his relationship. “Paris represents the place where it feels good and unfortunately, we’ve never got there.” TikTokers have also speculated that another track, “She’s American”, from the same album, is also about his relationship with Halsey.

Gabriella Brooks (2015-2019)

Model Gabriella Brooks marks Healy’s longest girlfriend, with their relationship spanning four years. In August 2019, The Sun reported that Brooks broke things off with the musician due to his partying. “He parties a lot at home when he’s there and Gabby had just had enough. She doesn’t want to lead her life like that,” a source told the outlet at the time.

Healy appeared to echo the same reasoning for their breakup, telling The Guardian in a 2020 interview: “My 20s was fuck*ng chaos and I didn’t live a domestic life so there are lots of things I’ve just not learned. I’m not emotionally very mature.” He continued: “There have been times when it does damage my relationship and I ask myself: ‘Why do I value my career so much?’ I’m trying to relinquish that idea. I want to have a period in my life when I’m not conflicted about it.”

The model has since found a new love in Miley Cyrus‘s ex-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, whom she began dating shortly after the end of her and Healy’s relationship.

Charlotte Briar D’Alessio (2022)

Healy was reported to be “quietly dating” Canadian model and TikToker Charlotte Briar D’Alessio in December 2022.

A source told The Sun: “It is early days and they are taking things slowly but it is clear to everyone who knows Matty how keen he is on her. They have been really subtle about being seen together, but backstage at his gigs, Charlotte is often there.”

At the time, some fans speculated on TikTok that the reason why the singer told fans at his show that he “can’t kiss any more people” in the crowd – after previously locking lips with some audience members – was because of his loyalties to D’Alessio in their alleged relationship.

Taylor Swift (2023)

Despite the pair having a long friendship, news of their rumoured romance broke on 4 May via The Sun. They fuelled speculation when Healy was spotted at Swift’s Nashville date on her Eras tour on 5 May. In videos and photos shared online, Healy can be seen hanging out with a few other famous faces in the VIP section area and throwing shapes to “Shake It Off” after he joined Phoebe Bridgers during her opening set.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that the pair have sparked dating rumours. Back in 2014, both Healy and Swift were spotted out and about wearing each other’s respective tour T-shirts; Swift in a monochrome The 1975-branded tee and Healy donning a “1989” album top. Healy also confirmed at the time that they were speaking to each other, telling Australia’s “Shazam Top 200”, “We exchanged numbers. Let’s see what happens.”
