Pedro Pascal might be the busiest actor in Hollywood – he has two hit TV shows on right now, after all – but his presence at the 2023 Oscars on March 12 had less to do with himself and more to do with supporting his sister. Pedro’s sister Javiera Balmaceda is Amazon Studios’ head of local originals for Spanish-speaking Latin America, which produced “Argentina, 1985.” The movie was up for best international feature at the event.

While on the red carpet, Pedro posed as a proud brother with his older sister, and the pair also took photos with Salma Hayek and her daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault. During the ceremony, Pedro had the honor of presenting with Elizabeth Olsen, who attended the ceremony with husband Robbie Arnett.

Javiera and Pedro have a younger brother named Nicolás Balmaceda and a younger sister named Lux Pascal, who is also an actor. Lux is trans, and Pedro has been vocal about supporting trans rights.

Pedro shared with People in 2020 that after his mother, Verónica Pascal, died while he was beginning his acting career in New York, he decided to use Pascal as his stage name. “She was always incredibly supportive, never a stage mom. I always felt like she knew something that I didn’t. None of [my success] would be real if it weren’t for her,” he said.

Pedro currently stars as the title hero on Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” and as Joel on “The Last of Us,” which aired the season finale during the Oscars broadcast.
