Angela Bassett took home her second Golden Globe – and the first ever award for the Marvel Cinematic Universe – on Jan. 10 when she won for her role as Queen Ramonda in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” As she paid tribute to her late costar Chadwick Boseman, Bassett’s husband, fellow actor Courtney B. Vance, filmed her on his phone from the audience, savoring his wife’s historic win. Watch Bassett’s speech and see Vance’s cute moment below.

During her speech, Bassett reflected on making the film and said, in part, “We embarked on this journey together with love. We mourned, we loved, we healed, and we were surrounded each and every day by the light and the spirit of Chadwick Boseman. And we have joy in knowing that with this historic ‘Black Panther’ series. It is a part of his legacy that he helped to lead us to.” She continued, “We showed the world what Black unity, leadership, and love looks like beyond, behind, and in front of the camera.”

She continued, “And to the Marvel fans, thank you for embracing these characters and showing us so much love. We just made history with this nomination and with this award. It belongs to all of you, all of us. Thank you.” Bassett previously won a Globe in 1994 for her leading role in “What’s Love Got to Do With It.”

Boseman died in August 2020 before the “Black Panther” sequel went in to production, and his four-year battle with colon cancer was kept a secret from most of the world before his death. In “Wakanda Forever,” released in November 2022, Boseman’s character, T’Challa, has also died, and the movie honors both the actor and the fictional character he made a worldwide phenomenon.

Back in November, Bassett’s “Wakanda Forever” costar Danai Gurira echoed Bassett’s comments when talking to POPSUGAR about the film, saying, “This is what Chadwick would’ve wanted. He would’ve wanted us to continue the legacy that he built.”
