Blizzard has announced a new mobile game called Warcraft Arclight Rumble. Set in the Warcraft and World of Warcraft universe, the mobile game will let you collect characters from these games and use them in multi-lane battles. It looks similar to a tower defence game like Clash Royale, but with more of an emphasis on attacking. A tower offence game, if you like.

What sets it apart from Clash Royale and other lane defence games is how it fits into the Warcraft universe. Your armies will be drafted from iconic characters like Jaina Proudmoore and Grommash Hellscream, and filled out with troops and spells. It also looks surprisingly beefy for a mobile game, offering a huge single-player campaign, raids, dungeons, guilds and co-op modes.

Here’s everything we know about Warcraft Arclight Rumble so far.

Which Characters Are in Warcraft Arclight Rumble?

The mobile game will feature over 60 heroes, villains and monsters from across the Warcraft universe. So far we’ve seen Jaina Proudmoore and Grommash Hellscream, and the game’s website lists Tirion Fordring, Maiev Shadowsong, Sneed, Hogger, Rend Blackhand, Bloodmage Thalnos and a few others.

When you collect a character, you’ll also get a tabletop-style mini of them added to your collection. The minis look so good that it’s actually a shame this is a mobile game and not a board game. It would be lots of fun to battle with highly-detailed minis of your favourite Warcraft characters and actually play it out in real life.

Every army starts with a Leader, who’s equipped with powerful special abilities that can turn the tide of a battle. Different kinds of Troops will make up the rest of your army, and your Leader will also be able to cast spells to support them. Your Leaders and Troops will level up as you play, unlocking new abilities that can change the way you play.

Will Warcraft Arclight Rumble Have a Story?

The main mode of Warcraft Arclight Rumble is a single-player campaign with over 70 missions. Each mission will present a bite-sized strategic puzzle for players to solve, and you’ll have to adapt your tactics to overcome them all. Blizzard hasn’t revealed any details about the story yet, but we know there are five playable factions — Alliance, Horde, Beast, Blackrock and Undead — so perhaps the campaign will deal with tensions between them.

Will Warcraft Arclight Rumble Have Multiplayer?

You’ll be able to team up with friends for co-op play modes and even join World of Warcraft-style guilds. So far we’re not quite sure what these co-op modes will look like, but it’s a pretty good guess to say you’ll be able to do raids and multi-stage dungeons together.

They’re set to come out as the weekly and monthly challenges, so it sounds like there’ll be no shortage of fun games to play with friends. In addition to cooperative play, you’ll also be able to go head to head against other players in a competitive mode.

Blizzard promises Warcraft Arclight Rumble will have lots of content, gameplay variety and replayability, and it does sound like there’ll be a lot to do.

What Platforms Is Warcraft Arclight Rumble Coming To?

The game will be playable on mobiles via the App Store and Google Play.

What Is the Warcraft Arclight Rumble Release Date?

There’s no release date yet, but Blizzard says it will be out in 2022. You can pre-register for more information and a chance to enter the beta here.
