Waleed Aly Winning the Gold Logie and Advocating For More Diversity on TV, 2016
Beginning his career in academia and law, Waleed Aly had not intended to become a TV star. But, you certainly would never have picked that from how comfortable he is commanding a crowd. After winning the Gold Logie in 2016, Waleed took the opportunity to bring awareness for the need of diversity on TV, saying as he accepted the award, "there's nothing wrong with the picture, if you are in the room I'm sure there's an Instagram filter to return things to normal. It will be fine. This is happening." Dedicating his speech to the "unpronounceable names," he expressed the need for racism in Australian TV to end, and Australia clung to his every word.
