On last night's MasterChef, the contestants embarked on a Service Challenge under the mentorship of Oakridge Restaurant's Matt Stone and Jo Barrett.
Split into two groups of their own making, the teams had to make a three-course menu — except one team had to make a sweet menu, and the other a savoury one.
After losing to Reece in a Spanish cuisine head-to-head cook-off on Sunday night's Elimination, Brendan attempted to settle a score with his best friend in the competition, and became captain of the savouries team. His team of Tessa Boersma, Simon Toohey, Khanh Ong, Sarah Tiong, Laura Sharrad and Sarah Clare was assisted by zero food waste advocate Matt Stone.
Brendan and Reece met at the auditions for season 10, becoming fast friends. "I really want to beat him," Brendan told producers after he volunteered for captain, signposting the friendly rivalry of the episode. He worried he'd "never hear the end of it" if Reece won again.
"Hey Brendan, are you working or are you just standing around doing nothing?" Reece asked in the kitchen. "I've probably done more than you," Brendan snapped back playfully.
"Are you ready to lose again?" Reece taunted, with a sly smile. "Hey Reece, you'll be eating your words shortly!," Brendan boasted, leaving the pair — and their audience at home — grinning.
While Brendan didn't defeat Reece in the competition, thanks to an overwhelming squid dish, their friendship and playful banter was a winner with viewers.
