I Went On a Married at First Sight-Style Honeymoon with My Mum and We Loved It
Married at First Sight doesn't have the best track record for either marriages, or the undue influence of someone's mum. Couples break up, mums interfere, honeymoons go AWOL. But what it does get right is the style of luxe holiday you can go on — even if you end up there without your significant other.
I don't have a partner, so early last month, I went on a Married at First Sight honeymoon with my mum instead. It was magical, and no, I'm not super lonely at all, no further questions. Ladies, you don't need some guy to justify your trip to the Hunter Valley when we have flattened the curve. Go on a girls' trip, or, better yet, take your mum.
The centrepiece of our holiday together was a ride on a hot-air balloon from Balloon Aloft, which was possibly the most breathtaking experience of my life. And what made it better was seeing my mum — tasked with driving my L-plate arse around — giddy with excitement at 5 a.m. as we drove to the pickup site at Peterson's Champagne House, where we would later take advantage of a champagne vegan breakfast (I said vegan breakfast: it had all the components of the avocado on toast option, but with extra veg, clever).
