Ooh Gurl! Taika Waititi and Both the Minogue Sisters Are Set to Appear On RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under

If RuPaul coming to Australia wasn’t exciting enough, today Stan has announced that esteemed director (and hilarious human) Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok) will appear alongside Australian music legends Kylie and Dannii Minogue on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under.

In a statement released by the streaming service, Kylie couldn’t contain her excitement: “I’m SO excited to finally be a part of RuPaul’s Drag Race for the first series Down Under,” she said.

“It’s such an iconic show and I can’t wait to watch the contestants perform their hearts out to win the title of Down Under’s first Drag Superstar!”

Following her sentiments, her own iconic sister too cannot wait for this Aussie/Kiwi iteration.

“I got to have a cheeky ‘Untucked’ chat with the girls on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under Season 1,” she said. “They had come straight from the runway challenge so it was exciting and tense all at the same time, not knowing who was going to have to lip-sync for their life!” Ooh, we love!

While it is not confirmed what each of the three superstars will be doing, there’s no doubt that this is going to be huge.

Premiering on Saturday, May 1 on Stan, the eight-part original will see the most fabulous and fierce local drag queens compete to be the first-ever Down Under Drag Race Superstar.

Hosted by RuPaul himself, and accompanied by fellow drag icon Michelle Visage with Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson, the 10 fierce Aussie and Kiwi queens competing to be Australia’s first-ever Drag Race Superstar are Anita Wigl’it (Auckland, NZ), Art Simone (Geelong, VIC), Coco Jumbo (Sydney, NSW), Elektra Shock (Auckland, NZ), Etcetera Etcetera (Sydney, NSW), JoJo Zaho (Newcastle, NSW), Karen from Finance (Melbourne, VIC), Kita Mean (Auckland, NZ), Maxi Shield (Sydney, NSW) and Scarlet Adams (Perth, WA).
