Well, we come bearing good news, because Squid Game season two is officially on. It’s happening!

In an interview with the Associated Press, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed that a second season is on the way.

“There will be a second season,” Hwang confirmed.

“So, there’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season.

“I almost feel like you leave us no choice, but, I will say there will indeed be a second season.

“It‘s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently, but I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.”

Although nothing is confirmed about the direction the second season will take, Hwang said recently that “there are some other stories in the series that have not been addressed”.

He went on to say that “the story of the police officer and the story of his brother, ‘The Front Man’” interested him.

“I could also go into the story of that recruiter in the suit who plays the game of ddajki with Gi-hun and gives him the card in the first episode,” he added. “I’ll just say, there are a lot of possibilities out there for season two storylines.”

The show dropped pretty quietly on Netflix back on September 17, but has since exploded in popularity and cemented itself in pop culture history. Not only is it the streaming giant’s biggest series launch to date, it’s topped the Netflix charts in 90 countries.

The show follows 456 people who are struggling to repay huge debts. When they’re approached to participate in a mysterious tournament of children’s games, they jump at the chance, only to realise that things are not as they seem. Desperate for a way out of the suffocating debts they find themselves in, players participate in life or death games for a chance at the grand prize of 4.56 billion won, or about AUD $50 million.
