Whoever said vinyl was just for hipsters and oldies clearly never met Taylor Swift.

The Grammy-winning artist, who surprised us all by dropping her album Evermore in December 2020, has broken the record for, well, actual records with her surprise release selling over 40,000 copies on vinyl in just three days.

The record for most sales in a week for an album offered on vinyl was previously held by indie rock artist Jack White, whose 2014 release Lazaretto sold 40,000 copies.

Prior to that, the record was held by Seattle grunge outfit Pearl Jam, who sold 34,000 copies of Vitalogy in one week back in 1994.

Considering Swift’s sales count is only at the 3 day mark, the number of copies sold is likely to be considerably higher by the end of the week which would well and truly left White in the dust.

Evermore, which was released just months after the singer’s eighth studio album Folklore dropped, debuted on the Billboard charts in the number one spot with Swift expressing her hope that the album would be a source of comfort during the holiday season for millions of people who couldn’t see their families due to the pandemic.
