She added: “Holly’s writing is so visceral, detailed in the descriptions of the landscapes, and we wanted to be true to this. Our director, Glendyn Ivin, and director of photography, Sam Chiplin, along with the producing team at ‘Made Up Stories,’ spent a lot of time scouting for locations. Australia is the only place where this series could have been shot.”

Wyuna — Hart House, Hideaway Beach

When talking about Hideaway Beach, Matterson said, “When you looked up and down the coast, all you could see was sand and water, and we were able to capture wide sweeping scenes, showing that Australia really has some of the best beaches in the world.”

And let’s not forget Hart House, a pivotal location in the story. To capture its essence, the production team found inspiration in Doust House. Its unique structure stands amidst sprawling cane fields, and the juxtaposition of isolation and nature’s bounty is a testament to the show’s attention to detail.

The production team originally thought they had to “build Thornfield from scratch” before they stumped across the real house in Scone. Matterson added: “It really looks like something out of a fairy tale — we could not believe that this existed.”

Next up is Thornfield — a place that holds a special place in Alice’s heart. In the Hunter Valley NSW town of Scone, the creators unearthed a grand home nestled amidst sweeping hills. Scenes like the Workshop, Green House, and Fields come alive at Jonima Flower Farm.

And who can forget June’s truck, Thornfield Flower Farm, and that iconic Flower Farm House? These scenes come to life at Bickham House, a majestic estate that echoes the grandeur of Thornfield. The setting enhances the emotional depth of the narrative, inviting viewers to connect with the characters on a profound level.

The Red Centre

The journey doesn’t end there, friends. The Red Centre takes centre stage in the final episodes, transporting us to the landscapes around Alice Springs and Western Arrernte in the Northern Territory. For those eager to walk in Alice’s footsteps, the Larapinta Trail offers a chance to explore the very sites that graced our screens.

From the captivating Alice Springs Desert Park to the stunning Simpsons Gap, every location becomes a tangible piece of the story.
