What to Know About the Cast of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” season two is almost here! The newest installment of the YA summer romance series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video this July, and it’ll have lots more sand, sun, and romantic chaos. Most of the main cast are back for the new episodes, including Lola Tung as leading lady Belly, Gavin Casalegno as the bubbly Jeremiah, and Christopher Briney as the moody Conrad.

The second season will loosely adapt the second novel in the series of the same name by author Jenny Han, titled “It’s Not Summer Without You.” And while we don’t know how exactly the show will adapt that story for the small screen, we do know some crucial information about the show’s cast.

The new season is adding two characters, played by Elsie Fisher and Kyra Sedgwick. Prime Video has yet to announce what their exact roles are, but it looks like they’ll be shaking things up. Plus, we know that David Iacono’s Cam and Rain Spencer’s Taylor are set to have larger roles in the upcoming season.

Ahead, here’s everything we know about “The Summer I Turned Pretty”‘s season two cast – plus the one season one cast member who isn’t returning.

Elsie Fisher as Skye

Elsie Fisher will appear in season two as Skye. Skye is not a character in the “Summer I Turned Pretty” books, and it’s not clear yet what role Skye will play in the series.

Fisher first rose to fame in the starring role in 2018’s “Eighth Grade.” They appeared in the horror movie “My Best Friend’s Exorcism” in 2022.

Kyra Sedgwick

Kyra Sedgwick joins the cast of season two, and based on first-look photos, it seems she plays Skye’s mom. However, Prime Video hasn’t announced a character name for her part just yet.

Sedgwick is a film and TV vet, perhaps most notably starring in “The Closer” from 2005 to 2012. She won an Emmy for her performance in 2010. She married actor Kevin Bacon in 1988.

Lola Tung as Isabel "Belly" Conklin

Tung stars as Belly in “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” and it’s her first major role. She was a student at Carnegie Mellon when she filmed her audition tape.

While fans might be attracted to the series because of the romance, Tung is firm that the series is really about Belly’s coming of age. “I’m Team Belly,” Tung told POPSUGAR in June 2022. “I think that is the only right answer. But I very much believe that she should follow her heart, and I believe in her going on her own journey and discovering that by herself.”

Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah "Jere" Fisher

Casalegno plays the role of Jeremiah in the YA Prime Video series. After years of watching Belly pine after his older brother Conrad, Jeremiah gets tired of pushing his feelings for her away. Popular and outspoken, Casalegno’s character isn’t afraid to speak his mind.

Casalegno got his start with films like 2014’s “Noah” and most recently starred in “Walker” as Trevor Strand. Casalegno told POPSUGAR in June 2022 that Jeremiah is “so similar” to who he is in real life. “I actually told Jenny [Han] this the first time [I met] her. I was like, ‘Did you talk to my mom or something? How? Did you read my diary? What’s going on?'” he said.

In the show, Jeremiah is bisexual, a major change from the book. “He’s exploring his identity and who he is, his sexuality, his relationships,” Casalegno said. “There’s just so much to be explored, and I feel like that was just a very fun part to really bring to life that would make the series more up to date and more relatable to today’s world.”

Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher

The eldest son of Adam and Susannah Fisher, Conrad (played by Briney) is Belly’s childhood crush. Known to push others aside, he also had feelings for Belly, which becomes a point of contention with his brother Jeremiah.

Briney graduated from Pace University and also appeared in the movie “Daliland.” Briney told POPSUGAR in June 2022 that he understands why some fans might get angry at Conrad at times. “When I first read the book and when the script started coming in, I was like, ‘This dude kind of sucks,'” he said.

But he came to understand why Conrad acts the way he does. “He’s just young and . . . just trying to keep it together for the people he loves,” he added. “Yes, he owes an apology to some people in the world, but he’s 17. He can make mistakes. He’s going to continue to make mistakes, and he’s just hurt.”

Rain Spencer as Taylor Jewel

Although they’re polar opposites, Taylor (played by Spencer) is Belly’s childhood best friend. A queen bee and sometimes mean girl, Spencer’s character is fiercely loyal to those she loves.

Tung told POPSUGAR of Taylor and Belly’s bond in 2022, “That’s such an important relationship, and I have so many friends like that – the Taylor to my Belly – who are in my life and are some of the most important people to me.” Taylor is expected to have a larger role in season two.

Sean Kaufman as Steven Conklin

Kaufman plays Steven, Belly’s protective older brother and a childhood friend of Jeremiah and Conrad. As an overachiever, he can be snarky at times but has a good heart. Steven plays a very limited role in the book series, but has a much larger journey (including love interests of his own) in the TV show.

Previously, Kaufman has had guest roles in “Manifest,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and “FBI: Most Wanted.”

David Iacono as Cam

Despite Belly’s feelings for Conrad, Cam (played by Iacono) is her first boyfriend. A cute local boy with a skater vibe, Belly falls for his sweet personality. Outside of his starring role as Bo Orlov in “Grand Army,” Iacono has also had roles in “The Flight Attendant,” “Blue Bloods,” “The Good Doctor,” and, most recently, Tubi original and Tribeca Film Festival pick “Cinnamon.”

“He’s written to almost be a little bit bumbly,” Iacono told POPSUGAR of Cam in June 2022. “At the same time, he makes it work. [He] pulls it off really well, just because he is so authentically himself and genuine with people.”

Cam does not appear in the second and third novels of Han’s series, but the character will be back in season two of the Prime Video series.

Jackie Chung as Laurel Conklin

Belly and Steven’s divorced mother, Laurel (played by Chung), just wants the best for her children. She’s also extremely close with her best friend, Susannah, who she feels is more like a sister. The series had given Laurel romantic plot lines that aren’t present in the books.

Chung has had several guest roles in shows like “Station 19,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Deadbeat.”

Rachel Blanchard as Susannah "Beck" Fisher

Blanchard plays Laurel’s best friend and the mother of Conrad and Jeremiah, Susannah, who’s the rock of her family. Warm-hearted, she helps the two families get together each summer. Blanchard is best known for her roles as Cher in the “Clueless” TV series, Nancy in “Peep Show,” and Emma in “You Me Her.”

Tom Everett Scott as Adam Fisher

A competitive workaholic, Adam (played by Scott) is Susannah’s husband that needs everything to be his way. In season one, Belly learned the pair are separating. Scott’s most notable roles include Guy Patterson in “That Thing You Do!,” Andy McDermott in “An American Werewolf,” and as Mr. Down in “13 Reasons Why.”

Alfredo Narciso as Cleveland

Narciso plays Cleveland, a commercially successful novelist from New York who crosses paths with the rest of the group in season one while spending his summer working on a new novel. He mentors Conrad and starts to fall for Laurel. It’s not yet clear if he’ll return in season two.

No stranger to television, Narciso has had roles in “Law & Order,” “Ugly Betty,” “Third Watch,” “Person of Interest,” “Blue Bloods,” and “All My Children.”
