“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” Reveals First Look at Princess Peach in Star-Studded Trailer
Nintendo nostalgia will hit the big screen next year. The teaser for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was shared during New York Comic Con on Oct. 6, offering a first look at the video-game adaptation starring Chris Pratt as the mustached main character. (No, he will not have an Italian accent.)
In the first teaser trailer, Bowser, voiced by Jack Black, can be seen lording over his Koopa Troopas, which engage in battle against the less threatening army of penguins. After the reptilian villain attains the coveted Super Star, viewers are introduced to Mario, who awakens in Mushroom Kingdom and is led away by Toad, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key. “What is this place?” he asks. In the official trailer, released on Nov. 29, Pratt’s Mario confronts Bowser’s looming threat with the help of Anya Taylor-Joy’s Princess Peach and a host of friendly mushrooms.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously developed “Teen Titans Go!” together for Cartoon Network. The screenplay is done by Matthew Fogel, who last wrote “Minions: The Rise of Gru.” Other notable actors in the cast include Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Seth Rogen.
