She’s trained in musical theatre and has a voice that bounces off each and every wall in the room, but Halimah Kyrgios finds herself living in the shadow of her famous brother, Nick Kyrgios

This is why, she’s brushing off the nerves and stepping onto the stage of The Voice, to show the world what she can do.

“I look to him for inspiration, he’s such a fighter everyone knows that,” Halimah said about her younger brother Nick. “He just battles for everything. Even though he’s much younger than me, I think if he can do it then why can’t I? What’s stopping me?”

The answer is, absolutely nothing is stopping Halimah as she gave it her all during the blind audition, leaving the judges completely in awe of her talent.

Singing Chains by Tina Arena, Halimah’s voice demanded attention as she belted out the high notes effortlessly.

No one could ignore her talent, as all four judges turned around almost immediately, leaving the singer in tears by the end of her performance.

Revealing her name to the judges, they were stunned to find out who her famous brother was, but it was Halimah’s night, and the spotlight was on her.

“That was a great song choice, I love that song. It was so nice to hear a Tina Arena song again, and it suited your voice beautifully. There was a little bit of nerves for sure, but in the middle of all of that, it was beautiful,” said Keith Urban.

Rita Ora and Halimah had something in common: They both have a background in musical theatre.

“You can tell because your stamina is really fantastic,” said Rita. “You just came on stage and were totally rocking it and were in sync, and it really felt so natural for you.”

The UK popstar also compared performing on stage to playing tennis, saying the two are very similar and require a certain level of dedication and handwork.

Jessica Mauboy, who sang that exact song with Tina Arena reminisced about the memorable moment, with the song holding a special place in her heart.

“I’m a huge fan [of Tina Arena] and hearing you sing that from your own world just hit my heart, I would battle for you to be on team Jess,” she said.

But Jessica wasn’t the only one who was ready to fight for Halimah to be on her team, as Guy Sebastian was also preparing to give it his all.

“Tina Arena has the most purest tone, and it pierces you internally and you have that accuracy,” he said. “I just feel like I haven’t heard a voice like that for a long time because Tina stands on her own, and I’m sorry we were freaked out about your family being so talented — I’m sure you’re used to it — but you as a singer are so brilliant, as your brother is as an athlete. You are seriously up there.”

But there was another surprise in store.

Right before Halimah was gearing up to choose who’s team she wants to be on, Nick Kyrgios appeared via video call to support his sister.

In the end, Halimah chose Team Rita, who she confessed to being a fan of for a long time.

“I love Rita anyway so she made a good choice there,” said Nick.
