Author, motivational speaker and burns survivor Turia Pitt has had her second child with partner Michael Hoskin, a baby boy named Rahiti. She announced the news via Instagram on Sunday. Rahiti is a brother to their first child, Hakavai, born in December 2017.
"Maeva i te ao nei!," she wrote, which translates to "Welcome to the world!"
Public figures like Megan Gale, Jesinta Franklin and Carly Findlay have extended their congratulations.
Turia announced the baby news back in August, with a self-described "Beyoncé-inspired video montage".
Speaking to Who that month, Turia said that she's learned that, as a mum, she can't shield her sons from unhappiness, however much she would like to. "The main thing I want to teach my kids is resilience," she said, "the belief that they not only will go through hard times, but that they can. I'm really passionate about that.
"Michael and I are both so excited. I'm feeling great!"
Last month, Turia co-founded Instagram initiative, Spend With Them, to encourage people to support local business in bushfire-affected communities.
At age 24, Turia suffered thickness burns to 65 percent of her body when she was trapped in an out-of-control grass fire while doing an ultramarathon in remote Australia in 2011. She was told that she'd never walk again, or live independently, but ended up competing in her first Ironman competition in 2016.
Now the author of three books and a respected motivational speaker, Turia is certainly an inspiration!
