3 TV Shows and Movies to Watch After Contagion
In the wake of the spread of COVID-19, one of the more bizarre reactions has been for people to start to consume all the contagious content they can.
As Refinery29 writes, people have started to download 2011 sci-fi thriller Contagion, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and Jude Law, in great numbers. In the States, the flick sits at number 9 on the iTunes Movie Rentals Chart, while here in Australia, the movie has made it to number 3, up against a series of high-profile new home releases.
The movie stars Paltrow as Beth Emhoff, a woman who seems to catch a cold while visiting her lover in Hong Kong, but actually brings back home to America a new, lethal virus, MEV-1.
People have noticed unnerving similarities between the fictional and real-life virus — the symptoms for each include fever, cough and shortness of breath; and they both partly originated in bats. In Contagion, the infection has the genetic material of pig and bat viruses, while the actual coronavirus is believed to be a mutation of bat and snake viruses.
There are 2985 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia, including 13 deaths, according to the Department of Health.
Because there's obviously a desire to learn about life-threatening viruses —
even if it's through a totally made up movie, rather than a trusted source —
here's a couple of other movies and TVs you can watch right now if you're a germaphobe, but not into zombie movies.
