RuPaul

Clear your sparkly calendar queens! Stan has announced the start date of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under.

Ru and her ladies will be sashaying to our screens on Saturday, May 1.

This all-new eight-part series will be hosted by RuPaul himself, accompanied by fellow drag icon Michelle Visage and Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson.

As with every RuPaul season, there will be celebrity guest appearances and all will be ru-vealed soon.

The 10 fierce Aussie and Kiwi queens competing to be Australia’s first-ever Drag Race Superstar were revealed live at the 2021 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. They are Anita Wigl’it (Auckland, NZ), Art Simone (Geelong, VIC), Coco Jumbo (Sydney, NSW), Elektra Shock (Auckland, NZ), Etcetera Etcetera (Sydney, NSW), JoJo Zaho (Newcastle, NSW), Karen from Finance (Melbourne, VIC), Kita Mean (Auckland, NZ), Maxi Shield (Sydney, NSW) and Scarlet Adams (Perth, WA).

The Stan original will see the most fabulous and fierce local drag queens compete to be the first-ever Down Under Drag Race Superstar.

Following the same format as the US and the UK, RuPaul’s Drag Race Australia will see Aussie queens serving high fashion realness with mini and max challenges, shady and heartfelt moments in the workroom, and of course, the all-important Lip Sync For Your Life battles. Can I get an Amen up in here?!

“I cannot wait for everyone to see that Down Under queens have some of the biggest charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talents in the world. Thank you to Stan and TVNZ for providing a platform for these outrageous drag artists to share their heart, soul and humour,” the Mother of all Drag Queens, RuPaul said in a statement when the series was originally announced.

The original Ru Paul’s Drag Race has seen incredible success in the US and has even garnered 34 Emmy nominations with the queens becoming household names.
