¿Y Ahora? Where Is the Cast of “Jane the Virgin” Today?

Throughout its five juicy, drama-filled seasons, “Jane the Virgin” won the hearts of Latinx and non-Latinx audiences alike. Is it a telenovela? Is it a comedy? It’s actually both! And viewers couldn’t (and still can’t) get enough of the romantic dramedy series. Gina Rodriguez fully stepped into her protagonist role as Jane Villanueva, giving life to the virgin mamá we all learned to love and for which she received a Golden Globe Award in 2015. The star-filled cast, which includes Justin Baldoni, Jaime Camil, Brett Dier, Ivonne Coll, Andrea Navedo, Jenna Ortega, and so many more, was enough to get an audience hooked. But the plot was filled with all kinds of romance, betrayal, unexpected twists, and surprises — very much like the intriguing novelas and telenovelas the characters idolise in the show.

The show follows the love life of a devout 23-year-old virgin who accidentally becomes pregnant after a gynecologist mixes up her routine pap smear appointment with another patient’s artificial insemination. She soon discovers the father is her boss, the beautiful and wealthy hotel manager Rafael Solano — and to make matters even more complicated, Jane’s old feelings for Rafael begin to return.

Meanwhile, Jane is trying to build a relationship with her own father, the famous telenovela star Rogelio de la Vega — which her mum Xiomara and her abuela Alba have mixed feelings about. Throughout the series, we see the importance of family to Jane — from connecting with Rogelio to starting a family of her own with her season one boyfriend Michael and later (spoiler alert!) her true love, Rafael.

The beloved series portrays Latinas, and single mothers, as fierce and strong women. Jane and Xiomara don’t depend on men and go after their dreams no matter what. By the end of the show, Xiomara becomes a dance teacher and Jane a writer. “Jane the Virgin” was a true representation of working hard, chasing your dreams, and ultimately believing in true love. And all while being supremely entertaining, of course! Keep reading to learn about what the cast have been up to since the show ended.

Gina Rodriguez as Jane Villanueva

Gina Rodriguez is once again stepping into the role of a mother, except there’s no pretending this time. The 38-year-old actress recently welcomed her first child with her husband Joe LoCicero, whom she met while filming the hit series.

Since her “Jane The Virgin” days, the Puerto Rican actress has appeared in a mix of romantic and action-packed films, including “Someone Great,” “Kajillionaire,” “Annihilation,” and “I Want You Back.” She is also the voice of Carmen Sandiego in the animated series, and Velma Dinkley in the animated Scooby-Doo movie “Scoob!”

She’s currently starring in the television show “Not Dead Yet.” Rodriguez plays Nell Serrano, a newly single journalist who’s assigned to write obituaries and learns she can see and hear the ghosts of the people she’s writing about.

Justin Baldoni as Rafael Solano

Justin Baldoni portrayed Rafael Solano, Jane’s on-again, off-again romantic partner and the father of her son. But it seems he’s drifted away from acting since and has focused instead on directing.

In 2019, Baldoni founded Wayfarer Studios, a mission-driven independent film and television studio. He directed “Five Feet Apart,” starring Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse, and the Disney+ movie “Clouds”.

The husband and father-of-two is also dedicated to writing. He’s the author of “Man Enough: Undefining My Masculinity” and, most recently, “Boys Will Be Human.” He also hosts “The Man Enough Podcast” with Liz Plank and Jamey Heath. What’s next? He’ll soon be making a live-action “Pac-Man” movie, somehow. Stay tuned!

Yael Grobglas as Petra Solano

Who can forget Yael Grobglas as the series’ complex villain-turned-good-girl Petra Solano? Since playing Petra, Grobglas has appeared in episodes of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Supergirl,” and “Undone.”

In 2020, she welcomed her first child with her husband, businessman Artem Kroupenev.

Brett Dier

Canadian actor Brett Dier, aka Jane’s first husband, Michael Cordero Jr., has kept active since “Jane the Virgin.” He had a role in “After Yang” with Colin Farrell and Jodie Turner-Smith and starred in “Fresh,” a horror thriller starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan.

He’ll appear alongside Robert De Niro, Sebastian Maniscalco, Anders Holm, and Kim Cattrall in the upcoming comedy “About My Father” later this year.

Jaime Camil

Mexican actor Jaime Camil has played many different characters in telenovelas, but none like his role as Rogelio de la Vega. As the father of Jane, Xiomara’s husband, and a hilariously vain actor, Regelio quickly became a fan favorite.

Camil most recently portrayed Mexican legend Vicente Fernández in Netflix’s “El Rey, Vicente Fernández.” Prior to that, he worked on a few other projects, including the films “Madness in the Method,” “The Secret Life of Pets 2,” and the thriller “Kimi” with Zoë Kravitz.

Andrea Navedo

Jane’s mamá, Xiomara, was played by actress Andrea Navedo, who has continued her career on the small screen. Following “Jane the Virgin,” she joined the cast of “The Good Fight,” “Mrs. America,” and “Elena of Avalor,” voicing Queen Lucia.

Ivonne Coll

Surely you remember Jane’s religious and opinionated Abuela, Alba Villanueva, who was portrayed by Puerto Rican actress and former Miss Universe (1967) contestant Ivonne Coll. Her most recent role is Grandma Rivera in “Love in the Limelight”. Prior to this, she starred in “One Day at a Time,” “Glee,” and “Lucifer.”

Yara Martinez

“Jane the Virgin” wouldn’t exist without Dr. Luisa Alver, Rafael’s sister and the doctor who accidentally impregnates Jane. It’s not the only time Martinez has played a doctor — she’s currently a series regular in “Deputy” as Dr. Paula Reyes.

She’s also appeared in 46 episodes of “Bull” and starred in the 2022 movie “Good Egg.”

Diane Guerrero

Jane’s best friend Lina Santillan was portrayed by “Orange Is the New Black” alum Diane Guerrero. Since then, the TV and movie star has lent her voice to Disney’s mega-hit “Encanto,” where she plays Mirabel’s perfect sister Isabela Madrigal. She’s also been cast in other acting projects such as “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Blast Beat,” “Blood Brother’s Civil War,” “Doom Patrol,” and “Woman In the Book.” Next up, you can expect to see her in the Buddy Holly biopic “Clear Lake.”

Justina Machado

How can you forget Justina Machado’s character Darci Factor, the matchmaker who later becomes Rogelio de la Vega’s romantic partner and the mother of his second daughter. Machado has been a busy bee following “Jane the Virgin.” Soon after, she starred in “Queen of the South” and “Superstore,” where she played Maya alongside America Ferrera. She joined the animated series “Harley Quinn” as Bethany while also portraying Penelope Alvarez in “One Day at a Time.” Justina’s latest role is in the indie comedy “The Throwback.”

Jenna Ortega

Ortega played young Jane in flashbacks throughout the series, and has gone on to lead multiple franchises since. Last year she played Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s “Wednesday,” and she most recently appeared as Tara Carpenter in “Scream VI”.

Ortega has also appeared in “You” and “X,” and will appear next in the crime thriller “Finestkind.”
