Curious About Who Liza Ends Up With on Younger? Molly Bernard May Have Given It Away

If you’re a fan of hit TV series Younger, you likely have strong opinions on whether Liza (Sutton Foster) should end up with Charles (Peter Hermann) or Josh (Nico Tortorella). Maybe you’ve even fluctuated between the two at various points over the show’s six seasons.

With the seventh and final season now upon us, it seems the time has come for our favourite forty-something to pick a side and ride off into the sunset with her chosen person…or has it?

In an interview with TVLine, series creator Darren Star expressed surprise that fans ever distilled Younger into a choice between two love interests, to begin with.

“We always wanted to move beyond the binary choice for her, ‘Team Charles’ or ‘Team Josh.’ I think the show is ultimately more than a choice between two men,” Star said.

“In terms of how that sort of happened and how it got so identified that way, that was a surprise to me. I feel like the audience decided that there were teams here. I didn’t even really think about it that explicitly.”

In the most recent season, it looked as though yet another option might be thrown into the mix with the introduction of surfer Kai Manning, so even if the producers didn’t intend for us to pick sides, they certainly love to keep us guessing.

Ultimately though, the happiest ending for the show, and Liza herself, would surely be one in which she chooses herself — whatever that might look like.

Perhaps Molly Bernard, who plays Lauren Heller, may have given us the greatest clue yet in terms of what to expect when she told POPSUGAR Australia: “I fluctuate from season to season. I’ve never been a die-hard ‘Team Charles’ or ‘Team Josh’. In previous years, I’m ‘Team Liza’ because I am, but what I will say and tease is the way that the writers end this series, I am team that.”

She continued: “It’s so good and fans are going to have their heartbroken and then have their heart burst open with joy. It’s such a sweet, perfect ending and I really can’t wait for you guys to see it.”

The seventh and final season of Younger is now streaming on Stan, with new episodes dropping every Thursday.
