It Goes Without Saying: Reynold Poernomo Is a God in the MasterChef Kitchen
Reynold Poernomo is a culinary marvel. While it'd be easy to dismiss him as just the KOI dessert guy, he's proved himself with savoury dishes this MasterChef season, like his Seared Scampi With Turnip Scallops and Barbecued Figs, which landed him in the Katy Perry Immunity Challenge last week.
The entire season, we've been overwhelmed by Reynold's finesse in the kitchen — whether he's making an Apple Pie and Cinnamon Parfait, featuring a whimsical Sugar Ball, to escape Elimination, or casually serving Katy Perry a Matcha Genoise Sponge Cake fit for an art gallery.
It's natural to be in awe of someone who cooks with such grace and ease, consistently finding himself among the top contenders in each challenge. Even when he panicked in last week's super complex dessert Pressure Test, when Darren Purchese took away the pavlova recipe midway through, he still ended up with an impressive, near-perfect dish. If that's what he plated up while visibly stressed, what could possibly derail him?
Even yesterday, when his sponge cake appeared to be a little too dry, what he created was well out of reach of us culinary lay people. We are not worthy!
And we love him even more for the way he's so giving with his expertise. Eliminated contestant Hayden Quinn explained to us that he's always happy to share what his knowledge. "If you want the recipe for his best ever ice cream, he's going to give it to you, without a question, and he's going to show you how to do it. He's like an open source, which is really quite amazing for someone that makes a living off their incredible creations."
Let's bask in Reynold's glory together, shall we?
