On June 16, Drake surprised fans by revealing on June 16 that his new album, “Honestly, Nevermind,” was coming at midnight on the 17th. He wrote on Instagram alongside the album artwork, “7th studio album ‘HONESTLY, NEVERMIND’ out at midnight.” A few hours later, he shared the 14-song tracklist.

“Honestly, Nevermind” isn’t the only new project Drake announced on Thursday. Less than an hour before sharing the news about the album, he made a post on Instagram revealing that his new radio show, “Table For One,” will air on Thursday night. “My first radio show TABLE FOR ONE on SOUND 42 @siriusxm premieres tonight at 11 pm EST,” he wrote.

Drake went for a similar release strategy with his 2021 album “Certified Lover Boy,” though in that case, he told fans the album was on the way four days before. This year, fans had been wondering if new music was on the way thanks to some hints Drake dropped on social media. Back in March, he posted an Instagram story from inside a music studio. In May, Drake confirmed that he and Lil Baby were in the studio together, though whatever they were working on didn’t end up on “Honestly, Nevermind.” The album doesn’t have any collaborations, except on the last track “Jimmy Cooks,” where 21 Savage is a featured artist.

Though the album release was a surprise, Drake had been a little more active on Instagram lately. On June 15, he posted an adorable photo of him and his 4-year-old son, Adonis, which quickly went viral on social media.

Drake’s surprise announcement of “Honestly, Nevermind” came on the same day as another monumental album announcement from Beyoncé, whose next album, “Renaissance,” is coming out July 29. Beyoncé is often credited with being the biggest innovator in the world of surprise album releases. In 2013, she released “Beyoncé” as a total surprise alongside a full visual album with music videos for every song.
