In News That Will Shock Exactly No One, People Are Mad About the Game Award Nominations

The Game Award nominations have been announced and, as usual, people have a lot of opinions. Deathloop leads the pack with nine nominations, including Game of the Year and Best Narrative, with It Takes Two and Psychonauts 2 close behind with five nominations each.

The Game Awards are like the Oscars for video games — the biggest and most popular games of the last year are nominated, along with some indie gems and a few underdogs, and the Game of the Year category is as hyped as Best Picture. And, like the Oscars, people are very passionate about which titles are nominated and which are snubbed.

Despite the critical success of Deathloop, a vocal minority of players are criticising some of the categories it’s nominated in. “Deathloop has NINE nominations?” wrote @OneTrueKoB. “Was it developed by some CEO’s nephew or something? Like I get it’s a good game, but the amount of press and trailers and hype this game got is CRAZY. Can’t believe they bought this many nominations.”

Then there’s Cyberpunk 2077. Some people are complaining that it was nominated for Best Role Playing game, citing its terrible launch and bugs as a reason it doesn’t deserve a spot on the list — conveniently overlooking its excellent story.

At least there are some nominations that everyone can agree are deserved:

Fan voting is now open for all categories, and the winners will be announced when The Game Awards is streamed live on December 9. Here’s the full list of nominees for The Game Awards 2021:
