Blood & Water: Netflix's New Series Is a Mix of Elite and You With Serious Family Drama
If you're looking for something a little more dramatic than Netflix's latest comedic teen fare, Blood & Water is exactly what you're looking for. The upcoming South African series follows Puleng Khulamo (Ama Qamata), a 16-year-old student who abruptly transfers into the prestigious Parkhurst College after meeting one of the most popular students in the school, Fikile Bhele (Khosi Ngema). What Fikile and the rest of Puleng's new classmates don't know is that the sweet-faced teenager is hoping for more than academic improvement: Puleng transferred schools because she's convinced that Fikile is actually her long-lost sister who was abducted at birth 17 years ago. Super chill way to make friends, am I right?
By the looks of the series' official trailer, Puleng has definitely bitten off more than she can chew. The one-minute clip features everything we've come to expect from shows that take place in prestigious high schools: chic uniforms, dubious friendships, steamy study dates, fights in the quad, and lots of emotional explosions. Directed by Nosipho Dumisa, the show looks like a combination of All American's family drama, Elite's indulgent messiness, and You's stalker mystery vibes. Which is absolutely a mix that we can get behind!
Alongside Qamata and Ngema, the show features stars like Gail Mabalane (The Imposter), Dillon Windvogel (Bhai's Cafe), Arno Greeff (Playboyz), and Natasha Thahane (The Queen). Check out the trailer above and photos from the first season ahead before Blood & Water premieres later this month.
