Leave it to Marc Jacobs to end New York Fashion Week on an utterly dramatic note. His Spring 2014 collection was the ultimate in fantasy, with models striding with a sense of panicked purpose on runways covered in glittering black sand amid the wreckage of a party ship (note the cigarette butts in the sand). Imagine if a group of surfers landed on a desert island and discovered trunks of Victorian gowns and made amazing amalgams. Tasseled sweatshirts over see-through sequined gowns paired with sparkling moccasin booties segued into lantern sleeve gowns with Marc's take on Tevas. It was a moment of embellishment on adornment — did Marc Jacobs just signal the end of minimalism?
