Have you checked out Garance Doré's fashion illustrations on display at Westfield Bondi Junction and Doncaster yet? Get in quick, they're only here til May 23rd! In the meantime, I caught up with the French fashion all-rounder to see what's on her radar during her Australian visit.
Did you know much about Australian style before visiting?
I knew a few brands like sass & bide but I discovered most of them by visiting for Fashion Week last year.
You’ve now launched your exhibition in both Sydney and Melbourne. Any style observations from each city?
Sydney is a very fashion forward and energetic. Melbourne is creative and vintage — both are so interesting.
Were you familiar with any Australian designers prior to your collaboration with Westfield?
Of course! I knew a lot of them and some are my dear friends, like Jade from Arnsdorf, Kym Ellery, sass & bide. I already loved Zimmermann swimsuits and got to know better some of the designers.
You’re such a fashion all-rounder — photographer, blogger, illustrator — do you have a favourite?
My medium is my blog, my illustrations and words and pictures are my expression – I love any kind of media and I have a real passion for magazines, so I love to work for them. Keep reading . . .
Do you and Scott (Schuman, The Sartorialist and her partner) ever argue over which street-snaps which will go on each of your blogs?!
Our pictures are so different that even if we shoot the same person sometimes you can’t tell.
You’re now regarded as one of the most influential people in fashion – how do you feel about that? Does it put pressure on your everyday wardrobe choices?
It does! Would you like to be my stylist?
What are the top 3 pieces you rely on in your wardrobe to get you through a bad fashion day?
Skinny jeans, a pair of heels and a man’s shirt.
What’s been your biggest splurge item?
What’s been your biggest steal?
My biggest steals are from my mother’s wardrobe!!!!
