Anniesa Hasibuan Immigrant Runway at New York Fashion Week

This Designer Is Sending a Powerful Message on Immigration

Anniesa Hasibuan is a name you should be very familiar with by now. The Indonesian designer garnered the public's attention in September 2016 for showcasing an NYFW runway where every single model wore a hijab. While her first collection was full of breathtaking statement pieces and delicate, shimmery colours, her return to NYFW was all about drama. Much like her 2016 runway, Hasibuan's sophomore appearance didn't shy away from making a strong political statement. In an effort to highlight the beauty of diversity, every model cast in the Fall/Winter 2017 runway is a first- or second-generation immigrant.

Hasibuan, who's been championing new ways of looking at modest fashion on an international stage, spoke with us before her show about the importance of tolerance and diversity. To hear her thoughts, check out the video above.
