Trend Talk: Balenciaga Cruise 2011

Brevity was the name of the game at Balenciaga's latest cruise collection ... Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière delivered a small but perfectly formed collection which channelled Cristobal Balenciaga's early work  — airline uniforms in the '60s along with witty ensembles for the urbane world traveller. As always, the collection was understated and yet not without sex appeal. Think insouciant little hostie dresses, slouchy harem pants and striking ikat print, which was given a very modern graphic update. Ghesquière's avant-garde vision isn't for everyone.
