Shine on, Sister. That seems to be the message Christopher Decarnin is keen to put across for his Winter '10 collection. You may recognise some of the key trends from previous seasons — military jackets, power shoulders, glitter metallics, mini hemlines and super skinny pants, but this time round they're more refined, richer in texture and more ornate in detailing.
But to call this collection a replay of previous seasons wouldn't be doing it justice. Yes, it's all noticeably Balmian in style, and I can already see Beyonce rushing to order most pieces, but the new touches of rock-tailoring (what else can I call brocade suit jackets and plunging pussy-bow blouses?) have injected a more mature sensibility which is less about the cool kids and more about Balmain's rich couture history. Two words peeps - gimme, gimme.
