If you like your fashion with a side serving of street style and peppered with a musical flavour Ruby Rose has the show for you. Style premieres tonight at 9.30pm (AEDT) on MTV so we chatted to the super stylin' presenter Ms Rose about her new series. We'll let the lady of the hour explain....
Tell us a bit about MTV Style? MTV style is kind of this perfect mix and integration between music, art, fashion and all things creative. I have spent time in Sydney, Japan, NYC and Melbourne with some of the best bands, inspiring artists and truly talented designers.
What's the buzz like in NYC during Fashion Week? It’s incredible, of course. It’s the best time of the year to be in NYC...It’s at its best during this time. The fashion, the people, the vibe — it is addictive.
Any highlights? Hmmm...I loved that Charlotte Ronson wanted me to walk in her show for Fashion Week. I had a wonderful time meeting Rihanna’s tattoo artist Bang Bang, and his tattoo on my shoulder of Tank Girl is my favourite! I made great friends and I rubbed shoulders with an Olsen twin (still can’t tell for the life of me which one it was), Chloe Sevigny and Jared Leto at a party — which kind of summed up how many (celebs) are in that town, at the one time, for this enormous event. Having The Veronicas take me shopping was gorgeous, and always a laugh...We are all friends and seem to just talk non-stop and have hysterical bouts of laughter. For more from Ruby . . .
To you, which music clip has been the most influential on fashion? WOW. I mean I don’t know, I think I would have to spend a week thinking about clips to even attempt to find one. I think Madonna’s "Vogue," "Express Yourself" and "Justify My Love" can sum up most of the fashion that still comes through now and is seen in the clips of our more relevant artists today like Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry. Madonna wore a leotard years ago for "Hung Up" and only now has it caught on.
Model, designer and fashion journalist: which facet of the industry do you enjoy most? Well if I answered that then I could potentially be putting myself out of work!
Who was the most interesting/inspiring person you interviewed for MTV Style? I have loved everyone. I don’t know? Mark Ronson was cool. The head designer/owner of Nobody Jeans was great and took me through the whole factory. Lionel from Gypsy and The Cats and I got suits made…I mean where do I start?
Who are you personal style icons? Madonna, Chloe Sevigny, Alexa Chung.
Looks like you did a lot of travelling for the show! What in your essential travelling wardrobe? A trench coat, well worn cool jeans, my iPhone, my watch, and boots.
